History

In 1970, Great West International Equities, in conjunction with Trizec Corporation, began construction of the Shoppers Mall. The Mall opened the following year with twenty-five stores and services.

In 1975, Bramalea Limited purchased the Mall from Trizec, and in 1981 expanded the center by adding another thirty stores. In 1992, the Mall once again changed hands when Devan Properties purchased it. An extensive renovation, completed in 1993, brought the mall into the 1990’s. A 4-screen movie theatre was added in 1998.

In 1999, Morguard purchased Shoppers Mall from Devan Properties. The new owners undertook a massive expansion project, adding 70,000 square feet of retail space, and raising the total number of stores and services to over 90.

In 2016, a $30 million redevelopment project kicked-off. The work was completed in 2019 and included the opening of Sobeys extra, GoodLife Fitness, Shoppers Drug Mart, Dollarama, Swiss Chalet/Harvey's, East Side Mario's and Original Joe's Restaurant & Bar.
